Court Fees & Rates

Most Court Fees may be paid electronically. Please contact the Clerk’s Office to request a link for payment via ERequests@nynd.uscourts.gov or call one of the offices. Please note the following fees are required to be paid in the filing event in CM/ECF using Pay.gov:

  • New case filing fee
  • Miscellaneous file fee
  • Appeal fees
  • Request for Certificate of Good Standing
  • Biennial registration fee

*Pro se litigants are not required to pay via CM/ECF, but they can request a link from the Clerk’s office to pay electronically

PACER (Public Access to Court Electronic Records)

The Electronic Pacer Access fee is $.10 per page. Access to court documents costs $0.10 per page as well. The cost to access a single document is capped at $3.00 (the equivalent of 30 pages.) The cap does not apply to name searches, reports that are not case-specific, and transcripts of federal court proceedings.

By Judicial Conference Policy, if usage does not exceed $30 in a quarter, fees for that quarter are waived, effectively making the service free for most users.

1  Miscellaneous filing fees are charged for filing any document that is not related to a pending case or proceeding.  This fee is applicable to the filing of a petition to perpetuate testimony, Rule 27(a), FRCP, the filing of papers by trustees under 28 U.S.C. Section 754, the filing of letters rogatory or letters of request, and registering a judgment from another district pursuant to 28 U.S.C. Section 1963 (Registration of Foreign Judgment), Power of Attorney, and Apostilles. A miscellaneous filing fee is required, in addition to the apostille fee, if there is no open civil, criminal or miscellaneous case for the document generated by this Court to which an apostille has been requested. (i.e. INS name change petitions, attorney admission certificates, etc.) All Miscellaneous Case opening documents must be filed electronically in CM/ECF unless there is an exception not requiring the attorney to be admitted to NDNY or the case opening documents are filed under seal. 2  This fee is in addition to the filing fee prescribed in 28 U.S.C. 1914(a) for instituting a civil action other than a writ of habeas corpus.
