The US District Court for the Northern District of New York is currently working on installing kiosks in local detention facilities that will allow remote court proceedings, interviews and attorney-client meetings. The court will be able to execute documents in real-time during video proceedings using a product called Adobe Sign. The Microsoft Bookings calendaring system is being used as part of this project and will allow the US Probation Office, US Attorney’s Office, Federal Public Defender’s Office and others to schedule meetings with clients.

This initiative (born out of the pandemic) aims to:
-utilize remote video technologies 
-maintain a high level of representation
-reduce travel costs
-increase physical security for all parties
-decrease processing time when executing court documents

Over the next several months the court plans to implement this system at Broome and Clinton County facilities. This will be another resource to achieve the courts’ mission of delivering equal justice under the law.
