Attorney/Client Meeting Kiosks

The US District Court for the Northern District of New York has kiosks in local detention facilities that allows for remote court proceedings, interviews, and attorney-client meetings. The Microsoft Bookings calendaring system is being used by the US Probation Office, US Attorney’s Office, Federal Public Defender’s Office and others to schedule these meetings with their clients. Currently this system is supported in Albany County, Broome County, Clinton County, Delaware County, and Oneida County.

Complete the Microsoft Bookings form below to book an appointment with your client at their facility. The system utilizes the Microsoft Teams platform to provide this service. The Microsoft Teams platform offers both a free web connectivity over a browser (Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox) or a free application download for devices like iPads/iPhones/Androids and Tablets. If using an iPad/iPhone/Android or Tablet device it is encouraged to download and install the Microsoft Teams App prior to your scheduled meeting. Cancellation of a meeting with Microsoft Bookings must be 24 hours prior to the meeting. If you need to cancel or change a meeting without 24 hours notice or are in need general support of an existing meeting please send an email to fac_coordinators@nynd.uscourts.gov.

A note on the use of telephone interpreters:

We will NOT be offering phone line communication into the Attorney/Client Meeting Kiosk service except under extraordinary circumstances. Most interpreting services offer video in their standard services and it is recommended to use video for all interpretation with our facility kiosks. Traditional telecom and phone communications are inherently less secure due to their reliance on legacy infrastructure and systems which are vulnerable. These networks were not originally designed with end-to-end encryption in mind, making it easier for attackers or even insiders to access voice data. In contrast, modern web-based video traffic, such as calls made through platforms like Microsoft Teams leverages strong end-to-end encryption and secure transport protocols. This makes web video communication not only more private but also better protected against unauthorized access, offering a higher level of security for both personal and professional conversations.
