Judge Gary L. Sharpe
Gary L. Sharpe is a United States District Judge for the Northern District of New York. At the time of his appointment in 1997, he was serving in the United States Attorney’s Office for that district.
Judge Sharpe earned his B.A. degree magna cum laude from Buffalo University in 1971, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his J.D. degree from Cornell Law School in 1974.
He is a Vietnam veteran, having served in both the U.S. Army and Navy.
Judge Sharpe was an Assistant Broome County District Attorney in Binghamton from 1974 until 1981, and a Special Assistant New York Attorney General in Syracuse from 1981 until 1982. He became a Supervisory Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of New York in 1982, rising to United States Attorney for that district in 1992, remaining such until 1994, and continuing in that Office as Senior Litigation Counsel until his judicial appointment in 1997
He was an adjunct professor at Binghamton University from 1978 until 1982.
