Judge David E. Peebles

David E. Peebles is a United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of New York. At the time of his appointment in 2000, he was a partner in the law firm of Hancock & Estabrook, LLP.

Judge Peebles earned a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1972 and a J.D. degree from Syracuse University in 1975, both with Honors.

After serving as an Assistant Onondaga County District Attorney, he was law clerk to United States District Judge Howard G. Munson in the Northern District of New York. He joined the law firm of Hancock & Estabrook, LLP in 1978 and remained there until his judicial appointment, rising to serve as Chair of the firm’s Labor and Intellectual Property Departments and as a member of its Executive and Practice Management Committees.

Judge Peebles is a Director of the Onondaga County Bar Association and has been a board member of several charitable and community organizations. Additionally, he has been a lecturer, and has authored articles, for several programs of the New York State and Onondaga County Bar Associations.

He is also an accomplished musician, having performed on trumpet with the Atlanta Symphony and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra.
