Attorney Admissions

Question:   Can I submit my Petition for Admission electronically?
Answer: No.  Currently all permanent admission applications must be filed with the court traditionally.
Question: What is the fee for permanent admission?
Answer: $226, payable to 'Clerk, U.S. District Court'

Payment in the form of a check or money order, along with all completed admission paperwork, should be mailed to:

Question: How do I apply for admission Pro Hac Vice?
Answer:

A Motion for Limited Admission Pro Hac Vice must be filed electronically by the sponsoring attorney along

with a Petition, Affidavit of Sponsor, E-filing Registration Form, Certificate of Good Standing, and Proposed

Order.  These documents, except for the Certificate of Good Standing, are accessible from the Attorney

Packet.  Upon electronically filing a Motion for Pro Hac Vice, CM/ECF will redirect the filer into Pay.gov to

pay the associated filing fee before completing the transaction.

Question: I am not admitted in New York State.  Can I apply for admission to the Northern District?
Answer:

Yes.  However, Local Rule 83.1(b) requires that your Certificate of Good Standing be from the highest court of the

state to which you are admitted or from a United States District Court.

Question: I am an attorney with the Department of Justice.  What specific forms should I submit with my application?
Answer:

A Motion from a member of the bar of this Court is required along with a Verified Petition, E-filing Registration Form,

Oath of Admission and Proposed Order.

Question: I am admitted to the Northern District Bar but do not have a bar number.  How do I get a bar number?
Answer:

Locate the green box on the CM/ECF page of the courts website.  Click on the Request New Bar Roll Number link.

A Bar Number Notice will be forwarded to the attorney by regular mail and a CM/ECF Password will be sent via e-mail

within 24-48 hours.

Question: How can I get a Certificate of Good Standing?
Answer:

Submit a written request, including the attorney's full name, bar roll number and date of admission, a self-addressed

envelope and the $18 fee made payable to 'Clerk, U.S. District Court'  The request should be mailed to:

Question: How do I update my address information with the Court?
Answer:

Locate the green box on the CM/ECF page of the courts website.  Complete the automated Update Mailing

Information Request.  If you just need to change your e-mail, phone or fax number, you can do this independently

in CM/ECF under 'Maintain Your Account.'

Question: What is the Biennial Registration Fee?
Answer:

The Biennial Registration Fee, established in 2001, is due every two years on the 30th day of June.  Click on this
